A Digital Home for a Niche Culinary Educator

From invisible expertise to a credible, scalable digital foundation

From the Ground Up

Nathan Koscielski, CCE, also known as Chef K, is an instructor at Niagara Falls Culinary Institute. He is a prominent chef in WNY: he was named Chef of the Year in 2026 by the American Culinary Federation (ACF) of Greater Buffalo, NY. In 2021 he became one of the first 50 chefs in the United States, and the very first in New York State, to receive accreditation in culinary cannabis from the ACF. Since then he had developed a new educational direction: cannabis cooking.

He has been teaching, experimenting, building real expertise, and developing his own method and approaches, but all of that was almost invisible online.

This is where we from Avandiz Studio came in to help Chef K build foundation for his online presence that could explain what he teaches, why this new field is a decent one, how his approach works, who his courses are for, and why he should be trusted.

Chef K was essentially starting from scratch with his new project. The goal was to create a professional presence where none existed.

Planting the Seeds

This was a true zero-to-one project.

1. No central platform. No website. No structured place to present services.

2. No clear messaging. The approach existed in practice, but wasn’t articulated.

3. Limited visual assets. No professional imagery to support a premium presentation.

4. Niche complexity. Cannabis cooking requires careful explanation — it’s not self-explanatory or mainstream.

We treated this as building an expert brand from the ground up.

Not just a website — but a system that could explain and build trust.

Phase 1. Positioning
& Messaging

We conducted interview with Chef Nathan to define how he should be perceived. One of his concerns was that the cannbis culinary is not treated seriously enough yet while in reality it’s a whole field demanding a serious knowledge and skills. So we defined that the chef’s business should be perceived as: Professional. Responsible. Educational.

Then we translated his real-world knowledge into structured messaging:

  • culinary expertise

  • educational focus

  • responsible approach to cannabis

  • clarity for beginners and professionals

We created a full text prototype before design began — so the structure was intentional from the start.

Phase 2 — Logo
& Visual Identity

We created a custom logo and visual direction for The Cannabis Chef.

The identity needed to balance: professionalism (culinary + education), accessibility, niche specificity.

This became the foundation for website, social presence, printed materials, and future growth.

Phase 3 — Photography Production

Since no professional visual base existed, we built one.

Kitchen Portrait Session

Shot in a professional environment of Savor restaurant located in world-famous area of Niagara Falls. The goal of the photoshoot was to establish credibility and personality.

Food and Teaching Session

Captured:

  • dishes

  • process

  • teaching moments

  • real working context

Events Coverage

We documented Chef Nathan’s conferences and public appearances to showcase his expertise and build trust.

Phase 4 — Website Design & Structure

Home (overview + upcoming textbook announcement)

  • Who I Am (the chef’s bio and his journey into a new field)

  • Educational Programs (courses, webinars, and conferences)

  • Class Menu (dish examples with photography and selected recipes)

  • FAQ (his approach and philosophy)

  • In the Media (recent articles and interviews)

UX priorities:

  • immediate clarity

  • simple navigation

  • strong visual hierarchy

  • easy next steps

  • mobile-first experience

The result is a site that explains quickly — without overwhelming.

Phase 5 — Extended Brand Work

In late 2025, Chef Nathan completed a student handbook that was later printed by SUNY Niagara. We designed the cover to align with the identity we created online. Both photos were produced by our studio exclusively for the chef’s textbook.

Results

Immediate Impact

  • A complete professional presence built from scratch

  • Clear explanation of services and teaching approach

  • Strong first impression for new audiences

  • Cohesive brand identity

  • Professional visual library

Real-World Outcome

Chef Nathan now says that when people ask about his approach, he simply sends them to his website — because it explains everything clearly in one place. The site also serves as a central hub where he directs people from his social media, turning scattered interest into a clear, structured experience and real inquiries.

Long-Term Value

  • A platform Chef fully owns

  • Stronger authority in a niche field

  • Easier collaboration and partnerships

  • Scalable structure for future courses

  • A clear professional link instead of fragmented communication
